Parties with Personality (A Kathi Post)

I found this booklet, How to Plan and Give Parties with Personality, in with some cookbooks that I got at a garage sale once upon a time.

It's from 1953, published by Thos. D. Richarson Co., the company who made those little pillow mints that were popular in the 1950's and 1960's. Every little wedding shower, baby shower, or anything back then had nuts and these mints. Do you remember them?

I remember thinking, when I was a kid, that I would surely grow up to be at parties like this, dressed like this, with Frank Sinatra songs playing in the background.

Never. Not even close.

This booklet was fun to look at, but it's weird to think that anyone ever really used the information in it or took it seriously.

But those were some tasty mints!

A CUB SCOUT SONG: 1963

Okay, fellas, how many of you were Cub Scouts when you were a kid? I was back in the 1960's. Do you remember any of the songs you used to sing? (Keep it clean now!) Do any of you remember singing Cub Scouting We Will Go to the tune of Jingle Bells?

"Cub scouting we will go
To a den where we can play:
Sunshine, rain or snow,
Happy on our way.
As buddies we will greet
Faces gleaming bright:
What fun it is when we can meet
And do the things we like!

     Chorus
Cub Scout days!
Cub Scout days!
Dear old Cub Scout days!
O what fun for everyone
In a den where we can play, O
   (Repeat chorus)

Nothing like a bunch of young guys whose voices have not changed yet singing this song and the poor den mother covering her ears. I'm surprised that we didn't bust a window or two with our caterwauling. But, it was fun.

Now, I hope this does not get stuck in your head. It has in mine. It is starting to make me a bit loopy.

COLDS, SUCK

I'm getting over this last cold. It seems that as I get older, when I catch a cold. It is worse than the last one I had. Catching a cold sucks. So does getting older. Oh well, Life moves on.

Jim is sick and a gratuitious doggie picture (A Kathi Post)

Well, Jim isn't feeling so good. He's got a cold. But, nothing a little lying around drinking cocoa won't fix, I hope.

In the meantime, here's a picture of our dog, Nugget. He loves to round his toys up so that they are all around him. He usually steals my Golden Retriever slippers and uses them as pillows, but it's been so cold that I've been using them on my feet (the nerve!)

So, he curls up with whatever toy is handy. Jim says, "Hey."
