SO MUCH STUFF!!

I spent ALL day Wednesday at Mom's. We will have a yard sale next week. I never knew that my Dad had so much stuff.

We got my Dad's "club house"/shed cleaned out. Tools. . . lots and lots and LOTS of tools. There are two G. I. pot bellied stoves. Garden tools, saws, hammers, car stuff. And then there is all the stuff Mom wants out of the house as she prepares to move to her new condo: pots, pans, dishes, silverware, cups, and a whole drawer of TOOLS. There is the big gun safe. Coleman stoves, lanterns, Coleman fuel, keys, locks. Worm buckets, fishing poles, lures. And TOOLS!

We got so much stuff, that I will have to be at Mom's before the sun comes up just to get everything set up. All I can say is, my Dad better be hiding behind Saint Peter when Mom gets to heaven. She says she is going to give it to him good.

Mom has also found a place to live. She bought a condo. If the big gun safe does not sell, she could always use it as a closet. 'Course, that means that I have to be the one to move it. So all I can say to all of you out there: DON'T HOARD STUFF! Someone has to go through all of it.

Well, unless you have someone in your family who you don't really like. Then they will be the one to have to go through your stuff and get rid of it. If that's the case, then hoard away!

I found all kinds of stuff that I can't do without and I'm sure that my Dad won't mind. So I've added to my own hoarding, by about 20 to 30 items.

Now if we can just get the weather to be nice on the garage sale day. We can sell a lot of stuff and add to other people's hoarding. You can never have too much, right?

  1. You'll be glad you held on to some things. I try to do a big spring clean out at least once a year. I have so much baby stuff to get rid of right now, I've been putting it off, but the pile is mountaining!

    1. Kitchen Witch, We also do the Spring cleaning thing. We cleaned out a lot of things last Spring, and now, with all the stuff from my Dad. We will have to do it again.

    1. Kymber, I did get some neat stuff. For one, his ATV, a few propane tanks, duffel bags, G.I. issue back backs, and lots of other things. As for the tools, bring a truck. Two barrels of garden tools. A five gallon bucket stuffed full of hand saws. Socket sets out the wazoo. Wrenches, pliers, screw drivers, sockets to numerous to count. Power tools, like drills, power drivers, power saws.(whew) And the list goes on.

As for the stoves, the one I'm really curious about, is the Kerosine stove. I'll try to get a picture of it, if we can unbury it from all the other stuff he has piled on it.

We are hoping to make some extra money for Mom. And no one else in the family has ever done a yard sale. Kathi is a whizz when it comes to garage and yard sales. If you ever have one. Also sell hot dogs, burgers, and soda pop, and bottled water. We did that at one of our yard sales, and made close to $100.00.

Wish you could be here for the sale. Oh well, I'm sure we will get to meet face to face, one day.

  3. Keep the gunsafe...and the Coleman stuff. Very collectible. We're all like your Dad to one degree or another.

    1. Stephen, I'd love to have the gun safe. But this thing is huge. It weighs over 900 pounds. It took 5 guys, and a power dolly to get the thing out of the basement. A lot of the Coleman stuff, kinda found it's way to my truck. You can never have to much Coleman gear. I also scarfed 6 cans of Coleman fuel. And 3 or 4 G.I. packs. As far as fire arms go. He wanted them all sold, So Mom would have extra cash. So they all have been sold, and she had about $ 6,000.00 or so. And that went towards her new condo.

  4. I'd love to buy one of the stoves from ya, IF I lived closer. I'm already "stocking up on stuff" so my son will have just as much fun as you've been having ;)

Yep, I'm sure some could call me a hoarder. We are a unique breed, don't quite think the same way as the "average" person. It's actually a brain not wired the same kind of thing mixed with some psychological stuff. And it can be hereditary. I get it from my Grandma.

It sounds like your dad had some wonderful treasures.

  5. Kellie, instead of calling it hoarding, I like to call it, collecting interesting stuff. You can never have to much stuff. And if you run out of room. Hit the flea market, and sell some of it. Then you have room to get more stuff.
My Dad didn't just collect one type of thing. He liked to collect all kinds of stuff. He had a hand crank Victrola, that he got at a flea market here in Denver. And that was in 1967 or 68. The guy he got it from, even gave him a whole box of those 78 RPM records. My Dad passed this past December, and we found that old Victrola in the corner of the garage.
He said that he was going to make it into a bar, since it didn't have the workings inside. My sister, now has it, and it has a nice home now. It cleaned up, and looks almost new.
